I'm glad you bring that point up. Just adding a style sheet to hide or modify the page would be easier and lighter but that is not my end goal with this Kynetx application. Removing the side ads is just the first step. I plan on building in features that would replace the advertising that I could sell to local businesses and local universities. Part of my idea is that I can sell advertising, games, polls, etc. to local businesses that I put there that are more relevant to the demographic that have installed the app. If local college students had the app installed, they could potentially get university updates, local coupon offerings, class reminders, and more.

If all your doing is removing that sidebar why not just go with a user generated stylesheet? FF plugin Stylish makes it easy, just add custom style, find the div you don't want to see and add display:none and it's gone.

I have a handful of websites that I go to often and don't like how some things are laid out. You can override those styles easily that way, without having to get into Kynetx (I know that's not your point, you actually want to do more with Kynetx), but still it's a much lighter option IMO. Plus it works for anything style related. I use it mostly to turn the display off, but for example on facebook I've adjusted other styles to stretch across that unused space, so there is more room for posts and content, on other sites I've replaced annoying background images for custom flat covers, fixed their css errors so things show up correctly etc.

I'd like to hear more about Kynetx as things develop. If I were still in Rexburg I'd probably be playing around with it too. Good luck.

@Steven,
I completely agree. I don't like how the content gets moved over when I remove the ad div. I'm going to be working on a better solution today. We'll see how it goes. ; ) Thanks for the feedback.

Nice app, Mike! My only qualm is that (using the browser extension for both Chrome and Firefox on Linux) it scoots all the content to the right instead of keeping it where it should be up next to the bar on the left. I don't know exactly how you have it set up, but it looks rather like the ads are being removed, rather than being hidden in place.

Any ideas about that?
