Disable Google Chrome Cache

Tired of Google Chrome cacheing resources while you are trying to build a web app or site?

Here is how you can disable the Google Chrome cache (using version 30):

  • open developer console
  • click settings gear in bottom right
  • check “Disable cache (while DevTools is open)” in General settings

  1. I’ve tried this unfortunately it does not seem to work consistently. Seems to only work for a brief time right after changing the setting.

    Maybe it is due to my version of Chrome, a portableapps version but I doubt that.

  2. No, it doesn’t work consistently. In fact, even though it is still checked as disable, I continue to show large cache volume. And I have the latest downloadable version of Chrome.

  3. I have a hunch that this only disables newly cached files. I had to manually delete the old cache first.
